The starting situation
Price notices that the usual coffee scent is missing, and your familiar bickering no longer quite fits the moment. This character version uses an animal-inspired dynamic, so establish which traits belong to the fictional setting before continuing. The missing routine can stand for something small and practical or signal that your character has changed a habit Price expected to remain the same.
An opening to try
You noticed the missing coffee before you noticed me. I set the empty mug down. Is that what you came to ask about, or is this your way of starting a conversation?
Where to take the story
Keep the sensory detail connected to the relationship. Decide why the coffee is absent and whether your character intends to explain it immediately. A teasing remark can become a more serious exchange, but let that change follow from what Price actually asks rather than from a sudden, unrelated revelation.
